Aetherdrift — Rosen's favorites
I did like Aetherdrift. Here's a quick highlight of my two favorite decks from the set. If you want to win, you should probably draft green, though.
Boros Push the Limit
This is a deck built around cycling a bunch of Vehicles and then casting the namesake card, Push the Limit. There are two common cycling Vehicles that will make up the bulk of your deck: Clamorous Ironclad
and Skybox Ferry
. There’s also the uncommon Detention Chariot
and the mythic Valor’s Flagship
. They are also good if you can get them.
Detention Chariot at uncommon is one of the reasons you want to pair red with white. The other main reason is the premium removal spell Ride’s End
, and, at uncommon, the slightly worse Gallant Strike
. All removal is good, but these two are the best.
The best red removal is Lightning Strike, Road Rage
is also great. Other notable non-rare cards include Greasewrench Goblin
, Marauding Mako
, and Thunderhead Gunner
(do you see the theme?).
When drafting, most of the time these removal spells and supporting cards should be picked over the Vehicles early in packs, because the Vehicles should wheel if no one else is playing this deck. And you really don’t want to be fighting over this deck because you need a high density of cycling Vehicles.
This could also be one of the best Monument to Endurance decks if you could get your hands on one. This is a rare that overperforms a lot in this deck.
Other than that, all the rare bombs in red and white are probably priority number one.
Dimir Artifacts
There are probably a few different builds of this lovely archetype. My favorite is based around the card Pactdoll Terror. This is a card that is good on its own in Dimir Artifacts and just gets better in multiples.
There are two signposts, where one could be the best non-rare card for your deck and the other is a trap. Haunt the Network is the one you want. Haunted Hellride
is a 23rd-card filler.
With these two simple facts known, we just draft every card that’s good with Pactdoll Terror and Haunt the Network
, together with a few cards that are just good in general.
Black is king at common. Other than the already mentioned Pactdoll Terror, you have Wreckage Wickerfolk
and Grim Bauble
, which are your top picks in this deck. Engine Rat
and Spin Out
are also very solid cards to fill out your deck with.
Blue is king at uncommon, with Spikeshell Harrier, Ranger’s Refueler
, and Transit Mage
all synergizing very well with the deck. Another notable one is Stock Up
, which is just one of the strongest uncommons in general.
